What to know

Lake in detail

  • One of the smallest lakes of the Shatsk group; the basin is karst, cut into chalk deposits.
  • Part of the flow-through cascade Liutsymyr–Kruhle–Dovhe–Plotychchia–Krymne, joined by canals dug before the Second World War.
  • Belongs to the “very shallow” class of lakes in the group.
  • The lake-specific description names perch, roach, crucian carp and pike directly; no open scientific control survey was found for Kruhle.
  • The source does not resolve “crucian carp” to a species, so the record is matched to the native crucian carp only with moderate confidence.

Hydrology

Hydrological connections

The Shatsk lakes are not isolated bodies of water but a connected network. Canals cut between the late nineteenth and the mid twentieth century, along with natural channels, redistribute water between the lakes and the rivers.
