What to know
Lake in detail
- One of the few lakes of the group with a glacial rather than karst origin; the basin is irregular and elongated.
- A canal brings water from Pulemetske into Ostrivianske, which then feeds the ponds of the Ladanka fish farm; it is also connected to Luky.
- The village of Ostrivia sits on the high eastern shore, while the north-western shores are boggy.
- Between 1999 and 2003 the park ran projects to renaturalise the adjoining marshes.
- A quiet, little-visited lake with wild surroundings, suitable for swimming near Ostrivia.
- In the 2010–2018 catches brown bullhead (39.6%), roach (19.1%) and crucian carp (15.5%) dominated; crayfish are still caught here, once a commercial species across the whole system.

Ostrivianske is taken into Shatsk National Nature Park.

Renaturalisation projects were carried out in the adjoining marshes to restore the natural water regime.
- 2014–2015
Autumn hydrochemical series determined pH, mineralisation and nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations.
- 2010–2018
The invasive brown bullhead dominated the commercial catches, and the lake remained one of the places where crayfish were taken.
- 2021
A morphodynamic comparison showed the area to be relatively stable, but volume estimates to differ widely.

Hydrology
Hydrological connections
The Shatsk lakes are not isolated bodies of water but a connected network. Canals cut between the late nineteenth and the mid twentieth century, along with natural channels, redistribute water between the lakes and the rivers.
