What to know
Lake in detail
- About 1.2 km north-east of Svitiaz, close to the road to the Hriada locality.
- The bed is level but covered with a layer of greenish sapropel silt more than 5 m thick.
- Eleven fish profiles are attested for the lake: the official water-management profile names tench, bream, crucian carp, perch, pike and carp, while the lake-specific description adds bleak, ruffe, rudd, weatherfish and the invasive brown bullhead.
- The sources do not resolve “crucian carp” to a species; it is matched to the native crucian carp only with moderate confidence, and the species profile carries that caveat.
- An important ornithological reserve: mallard, common pochard and swans nest here.
- One of the most elongated basins in the group, with an elongation ratio of about 2.3, on a par with Svitiaz and Krymne.
- Taken into Shatsk National Nature Park in 2010, when the park's boundaries were extended.
