Lake in detail
- A shallow twin of Ozertse, joined to it by a short channel; the basin formed by glacial subsidence.
- The lake-specific description names seven typical species directly: roach, rudd, perch, ruffe, crucian carp, weatherfish and bleak.
- The source does not distinguish the crucian carp from the Prussian carp, so the record is matched to the native crucian carp only with moderate confidence.
- The shoreline is poorly developed and heavily boggy, and the water warms quickly.
- North-east of the town of Shatsk, closer to the village of Melnyky.

Hydrological connections
The Shatsk lakes are not isolated bodies of water but a connected network. Canals cut between the late nineteenth and the mid twentieth century, along with natural channels, redistribute water between the lakes and the rivers.
A short channel connects the two neighbouring shallow lakes.
